This past 2009 General Assembly session saw many legislators pontificating at length about the need for health care reform and listing the woes of small businesses unable to afford coverage for their employees. Their answer? Promoting bare-bones health care plans by stripping all health insurance mandates in Virginia.
On Thursday February 19th I had the pleasure of attending a subcommittee of the House Committee on Militia, Police & Public Safety. The meeting took place at 7:30AM (these early bird subcommittee meetings are always a blast!). I arrived a minute or two after 7:30AM and the meeting had already started. The room was small and it was brimming with people. There was barely standing room inside and I had to shoulder my way in.
There is a new law that may help those committed to making a gift this year called the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008. This new law contains incentives for charitable giving to qualifying non-profit organizations like the Virginia Interfaith Center.
