Bill Mims, Easy for GA, Great for VA
Bill Mims was named to the Virginia Supreme Court today by an overwhelming vote of the Virginia General Assembly. Bob McDonnell must be pleased, and he has every right to be.
In what has been a hit and miss session for both Democrats and Republicans, it was great to be in the gallery as the Senate of Virginia found overwhelming common ground to send Mims to the bench. As I said last week, Mims’ appointment is great for Virginia.
I first worked with Bill Mims six years ago in the Senate of Virginia on issues impacting at-risk children and youth. We also worked on some housing and local planning regulations that impact lower-income Virginians. As a Senator, he was amazingly fair and truly wanted to work toward good public policy. I have said it before and I will say it again, “Bill Mims taught me how work in Capitol Square.”
Kudos to the Virginia General Assembly for strengthening the Virginia Supreme Court with an excellent choice for all Virginia.

Will Bill Mims recuse himself from any cases coming before the court that include any relatives as plaintiff or defendent?
I can not guess what cases that future-Justice Mims will recuse himself from but I have it on good authority that he will not hear the April case of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia dealing with breakaway congregations seeking to assume church property.
