Arizona Law Coming to Virginia
Well we knew it would happen. Despite Gov. Bob McDonnell’s disapproval of Arizona’s un-American & anti-immigrant law, there is a full-fledged campaign to bring this law into our Commonwealth:
Prince William County Board of Supervisors Chair, Corey Stewart, today announced the “Virginia Rule of Law Act” on WINA’s The Schilling Show.
Prince William County is also the place infamous for passing an Arizona-like Anti-Immigrant bill of its own that decimated it’s economy.
Doug Madison, the owner of Mailbox Junction and a Stewart supporter, said he believed the immigration issue was just that: an immigration issue. But a whopping 40 percent loss after the first month of the crackdown left Madison with faltering support for the county leadership and scrambling for ways to compensate.
The anti-immigrant bill also worsened the housing crisis as people, terrified of living in a police state where everyone of color has to have “papers”, fled the County.
Prince William County the foreclosures rose by 89% during the first two months of 2008 as compared to the same period in 2007. The number of defaults are also rising and soaring. In 2007 there were 3,344 foreclosures, 282 in 2006 and 52 in 2005.
Comparisons with surrounding counties shows this is not some macro trend that Prince William County is unfortunately and co-incidentally swept up in. Prince William had, by far, the highest foreclosure rate compared to surrounding counties.

Immigration programs, such as the one in Prince William County, were targeted by the Inspector-General of the Department of Homeland Security as needing greater oversight.

Perhaps you should stop misrepresenting the law. It is not “anti-immigrant”; it is anti-ILLEGAL immigrant. And talk about weasel words! “Immigration programs, SUCH AS the one in Prince William County, were targeted by the Inspector-General of the Department of Homeland Security as needing greater oversight.” Except … Prince William’s program was conspicuously NOT EVEN MENTIONED in the report you cite or, more accurately, your misrepresentation of the report to which you refer.
And since when is enforcing the law — including the immigration laws — “anti-American”?
I suppose if someone characterized the positions you advocate as “anti-American,” you’d cry “Racist!” or “McCarthyism!”
And furthermore, it’s a lie that the Rule of Law Resolution, “decimated” our economy. The only ones whose economy was affected were those who made a liing benefitting from the presence of or aiding and abetting the illegal invaders of our County. The rest of us are getting along just fine, thank you.
Hello James & Robert,
Thank you for participating and presenting your perspectives. I think you raise an important question about this concept of “Un-American” laws. I think you would agree that America has certain values that are cherished by most if not all Americans. If the laws we create to solve certain problems do not live up to those values, I submit then that those laws can be described as “Un-American”. I invite you to read our newest blogpost that explores this concept at the url below:
